Some of my friends and film associates made this short film, 'Défi', about a unicorn and a hunter clashing in the unicorn's domain, and asked me to create a custom type treatment for the title. The film involves themes of ecology and the hubris of civilization, so I created a lettering style that combines stiff, upright architectural motifs with fluid, organic curves. By using the language of typography to make two contrasting statements about the tone of the film, I hoped to give the audience a prelude to the core conflict of the story.
My favorite thing about projects like this is sending off a purely typographic element and then getting to see how it fits into the combined artistry of the whole film (the title sequence, poster, etc.)
